EXPLORING SARAWAK IN 2008

Back in 2008, we conducted an exploration event from Kuching to Miri, which we named "Kembara Hijrah". The event was a social service kind of event, where we brought almost 100 youths to travel 800km in 7 days. Along the travel, we stopped by 5 locations -- all villages / rural areas where the youths participated in several social services work with the local community.

That was, then, the third such event that I personally led in Sarawak. In this picture is me delivering the initial briefing to all the participants. For events such as these, and even for other events or even a workplace scenario, an "orientation" session is very important. During that "orientation", the most important thing is to bring the participants to at least know the "purpose" of the event. Once the purpose is understood, it will be relatively easy to put in all the rules, safety regulations, chain of command, etc.

This event provided a significant experience for most of our participants, all of whom were our former participants from prior training events. Youths today need more activities like this.
