In light of the recent USA's ban on Huawei which led to Google and Intel withdrawing their products from the Chinese company, I somehow believe that the decision will hurt the US more than it will hurt China. I'm not an expert in economics, but if Huawei plays their strategy right, they could be in line to become the market leaders in technology.
One important factor, as this Prof. Jin mentioned in the video above, is that Huawei can survive on their domestic market alone. China is a gigantic market, and they have been using their own technologies in certain areas for a long time. They don't use Google in China, the use their own search engine that is Baidu. They have been using e-wallets and digital payments (check out WeChat pay) in their fish markets when the rest of the world are still on beta testing. Also, arguably the best brand of laptops in the world - as has been for a few years now - is Lenovo. That's a Chinese company. All these mean that China is not dependent on the US in terms of developing technology.
So, now that Huawei are being forced to look beyond Android OS and Intel chips, I believe it could open the world to better alternatives to Android and Intel. After all, Huawei phones are already proving to be better in terms of hardware than their rivals. It will be exciting to see what Huawei and China come up with in the near future.
