Amin!

Although several NGOs like YAWA, WWF, MNS have been working to raise Malaysian environmental awareness for a long time, environment still remain as 'second class' issues, perhaps. The polls which conducted by New Straits Times before (base on Mac 10, 2007) regading THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES THAT THE MALAYSIAN MPs SHOULD DEAL WITH: showing that public safety is on the rank, followed by consumer price, illegal immigrant, employment and the last is environment.
It doesn't mean that environment is the most important thing to highlight, as I am more interest on environment issues but as the environment is facing degradation day by day, we especially the government should be proactive instead of reactive. Proactive in nurturing young talents especially on the most important country's issues such as economic, social and environment.
In this sense, Malaysia can learn from Australia on how they collectively nurturing young talents by organizing Youth Summit as the medium for them to freely deliver their thought, argue, agree and disagree among others, then this will stimulate their mind on being more observer to their surronding environment. Please note that environment is not about worshiping for saving trees, replanting or etc per se. It should be broaden to environment technology application, which involve on wastewater treatment issues, non point source pollution fate and transport into the water body, municipal solid waste management issues and challange and air pollution as well as climate change. It is not necessary for the layman to know the technical part, but the more important is to know the issues which can help them especially young professionals to manage the business in sustainable manner.
Yes, I admit that there have many programmes regading to environmental awareness have been organized by many parties in Malaysia, but the challange for our new Minister of Youth and Sport - Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaacob and his Deputy - Wee Jack Seng is to forsee that the programmes are not just 'touch and go' oriented. This issues of intelectualism and activism competencies need concerted effort from all parties without pointing fingers to claim "that this is not under me but under him..."
